Domestic Violence and Black Widows

In America, the domestic violence laws are based on VAWA (Violence Against Women Act). This leaves men with no recourse when in need of help from an abusive female partner. Feminists often cite the department of justice statistics that 79% of domestic violence arrests were of men who abused women. The problem with these stats are that they do not show unreported cases. Other problems occur, such as the fact that men often feel embarrassed about making a report. A study from the Australian Bureau of Statistics called PSS or Personal Safety Survey show that men are actually rather likely to be hit by a wife or girlfriend. This offers hope since it has prompted American and British organizations to do the same studies which show that men are equally if not more likely than women to be victims of intimate partner violence. Why does the U.S. congress wish to add a $1 billion upgrade to VAWA and push it to other countries with the International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA)?

Another alarming trend is the bias in the court cases of women who murder their husbands. Many of them play the victim card, which is predictable at this point. Sometimes the evidence points so far in the direction of premeditated murder, yet many women who murder their husbands only receive a few years in jail as long as she says she was abused. I suppose this is the new excuse for wives to murder their hubbies in America. Men who are convicted of killing a spouse have to work much harder to claim they were abused and are generally held accountable by our system, with much stronger sentences. Blaming the victim only works if for females.

Another opinion article. This one about Senator Biden's invention and expansion of the VAWA despite evidence against its validity.

Submitted by WakeUp on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 09:35.

When the police showed up they found the man falling down the flight of stairs with a bleeding head. Standing behind him was his wife holding a glass coffee mug. He made 2 calls to 911. After the second one she broke his cell phone. Two of the comments posted by readers actually know the victim. One of them goes by a nickname (foy75) that is the same as the man's last name (Foy) which indicates it could be a relative.

A man heard rumors that his wife was trying to kill him. He didn't believe them. His wife tried to hire a family friend to kill her husband. The friend told the husband. In the meantime, she hired another friend to put wasps in his car, to which he is allergic. He managed to escape without being stung. The only possible motive was to cash in on his $250,000 life insurance policy.

Dr. Laura Debates Feminists on Men and Violence

Submitted by WakeUp on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 08:30.

This is an article by Wendy McElroy about Dr. Laura making reference to a study in Australia which shows that men are rather likely to be victimized by domestic violence, and violence in general. The backlash on stats from pro-male feminists and men's activists usually wins out. The information is suppressed because it has a supposed gender-bias towards men, as if the ones squashing it don't have a pro-woman bias.

Hitting back: the brutal face of domestic violence

Submitted by WakeUp on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 07:56.

A group of actors put on a play about domestic violence made up to look like battered women. At the bottom of the page, most of the comments posted from both male and female readers are about how domestic violence is NOT a gender issue and is too sensitive of a subject to be portrayed in such a light.

Battered men seek equal protection

Submitted by WakeUp on Wed, 03/21/2007 - 07:41.

Article giving one of the key cases which services as an example of how the violence against women act protects abusive women and turns innocent men into convicts. The article does show the other side of the story and states 'Many critics have also noted that the large number of shelters available to women reflect the fruits of a long-term struggle by feminists, which has not been matched by efforts from men.' The thing is, I don't think anyone is trying to deny feminists of that fact, but let us not treat this like it is a contest. PEOPLE are not supposed to hit their partners, children.

Murder trial for minister's wife set for April 9

Submitted by WakeUp on Mon, 03/19/2007 - 06:52.

She shot her minister husband to death with a shotgun. I wonder if she will act like a victim in court, claim the "I was abused" defense, or plead insanity. If she is sentenced, I wonder if she'll get life. Probably not knowing how it usually goes when women murder their husbands, but we'll see.

Court: Killer wife guilty of first-degree murder

Submitted by WakeUp on Mon, 03/19/2007 - 05:43.

This woman murdered her husband and was convicted and sentenced to life after confessing to beating him in the head with a hatchet 15 times AND stabbing him in the back 21 times. Her attorney overturned the case and changed it to second degree murder, for which she might get 10 years. They are trying to prove that she was abused. Abused or not there is no excuse for such brutal display of violence. "It is a sad day for battered women, especially those living in Michigan" said her attorney. He could have said battered women AND murdered husbands. Wait, he's her attorney.
