She describes how lies and coercion are used to intimidate her into adhering to their agenda. She was also told by social workers that men are useless and used other "inflammatory words" about them. She was discouraged from reconciling with her partner or from starting any relationships with men at all. According to her, the shelter workers also treated the residents like children and used them for labor.
