Admittedly, the title of this entry was bitten from an ifeminists.com article also called Domestic Violence Is Not A Gender Issue by Erin Pizzy. However, the info here is unique and cites many different references.
For over a decade feminists have been spreading false stats and one-sided theories about domestic violence being perpetrated almost always by males, with females being the victims nearly every time. In light of this information on gender-based violence, Senator Joseph Biden drafted the "Violence Against Women Act" also known as VAWA. This was voted and passed into law, has received billions of dollars of funding, and the National Network To End Domestic Violence has still asked for more and were not happy to be turned down.
Take for example the web site stopvaw.org which has an article called Adapting the Duluth Model for training law enforcement and counselors. The problem with this training model is that it takes on the presumption that battering is essentially caused only by males.
Organizations that use the Duluth Model, feminists and women's studies classes constantly ignore blind studies and other research which show that women are basically just as likely to commit DV. In situations where men were more likely to initiate, it was not by enough to justify denying males equal protection under the law, which is part of their agenda.
Here is some of the data feminists pretend is non-existent. Cited here are studies from the mid 90's to 2007 which show females can be just as aggressive as males in relationships:
1) The Australian Bureau of Statistics Personal Safety Survey indicates a lot of different data showing both males and females committing partner abuse. It also gives the detail that men are twice as likely as women to experience violence in general.
2) A 2000 study from the The U.S. Department of Justice shows men are only slightly less likely to be victims of domestic violence.
5) American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) has a report called "Differences in Frequency of Violence and Reported Injury Between Relationships With Reciprocal and Nonreciprocal Intimate Partner Violence" which references a blind study done by members of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). From the study: "Almost 24% of all relationships had some violence, and half (49.7%) of those were reciprocally violent. In nonreciprocally violent relationships, women were the perpetrators in more than 70% of the cases. Reciprocity was associated with more frequent violence among women (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]=2.3; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.9, 2.8), but not men (AOR=1.26; 95% CI=0.9, 1.7). Regarding injury, men were more likely to inflict injury than were women (AOR=1.3; 95% CI=1.1, 1.5), and reciprocal intimate partner violence was associated with greater injury than was nonreciprocal intimate partner violence regardless of the gender of the perpetrator (AOR=4.4; 95% CI=3.6, 5.5)."
8) MetaPress has for sale the an article called Characteristics of Callers to the Domestic Abuse Helpline for Men which documents phone calls made to a domestic abuse helpline for men. The source of the article is Journal of Family Violence

It is indeed not a gender issue.Sometimes females can be more aggressive compared to women. This article shows that male are not the only one who are more or mostly violent.
